Brussels Van Damn Golden League Meeting

Friday Sept.3rd

This was a great track meet. They had a live band, and an African drum corp. The drums would be played when the Kenyans were running there distance races. The drummers would go off during the entire race, and it would get really loud in the stadium. The crowd was nearly sold out, and it is a huge stadium (probably holds 70,000 or more). When Jeff was jumping at 6.00m they would play ACDC "We Will Rock You" and the entire crowd would sing, clap and stomp the ground. A very fun competition.

Nick Hysong finished 4th in the comp. with a jump of 5.75m (18' 10 1/2"). Danny Ecker and Maksim Tarasov tied for second with no missed at 5.90 (19' 4"). Jeff Hartwig missed once at 5.90 and passed to 5.95. Jeff clear this bar on his first attempt. This forced the others to pass to 6.00m if they wanted to win the meet. All three missed at 6.00m. This is the second year in a row that Hartwig has won Brussels, and both times he has jumped 5.95 which ties the meet record (he shares it with Bubka). Jeff has also won the last two Golden League meets in a row. GOOD JOB JEFF.
