Pole Vault Drills Work on Drill number one before you do drill number two, and always work on drill number one (you will never be too good to do these drills). 1. The One Arm Takeoff Drill - "One Arms" This drill is great for teaching vaulters to jump up at the takeoff. Video/Quicktime format - file size 3.5M I currently have to use my bottom arm a little do to a small shoulder injury, normally you should only use your top arm. - You need a short relaxed approach. - jump from just outside your step. - jump up and, push your palm up. - when it gets easy hold higher.
2. The Rock back or Swing up Drill This drill works the same takeoff aspects that the first drill does, but it adds the next step. "Swinging" Video/Quicktime format - file size 1.5M In my drill I made a couple of mistakes. 1. My step is under or too close. 2. My trail leg is bent. It should be straight.
3. The Pole Run This drill works on running technique, step consistancey, pole carry, and the takeoff (a little). Video/Quicktime format - file size 2.9M This video is Jeff Hartwig practicing in Switzerland summer of 2000. You can use a towl or a sliding box to plant in. I use a towl.
